Diabetic eye exam

Annual eye exam is an important component for the management of diabetes. During diabetic eye exam the doctor evaluates the health of the eye and the retina. Digital retinal imaging is also utilized to aid in capturing the image of the retina and storing it for the future reference.

Duration of the disease and blood glucose level are main risk factors with diabetes. Complications of diabetes could have a significant negative impact on the quality of life for the patient. The most common complications include blurry vision due to diabetic retinopathy which could lead to blindness, decline in kidney function (diabetic nephropathy) and neuropathy of the feet. During eye exam the doctor can detect early signs of diabetic complications before the patient begins to experience the symptoms. Annual eye exam is one of the most important tools to monitor ocular and general health to ensure longevity and good quality of life for the patient.
